Program Summary:
The Nordic Fund is an impact Fund targeting Somali SMEs in order to support a responsible private sector, creating a sustainable business environment and fostering prosperity and stability in the region. The Fund deploys risk capital to finance SMEs with Sharia compliant loans and other self-liquidating structures with a focus on job creation and empowerment of female entrepreneurs. This work is supported by the One Earth Future Foundation’s Shuraako Program.
Primary Role:
The Communications Specialist will support and implement the communications strategy for the Nordic Horn of Africa Opportunities Fund (Nordic Fund). S/he will be responsible for driving strategic storytelling development and creating, implementing, and disseminating engaging content and campaigns that share the work and core beliefs of the Nordic Fund, the European Union, One Earth Future and the Investment Fund for Developing Countries (IFU). This position will work to highlight stories that engage the fund’s target audiences around its core mission and impact. S/he will be expected to remain up-to-date with the latest news and developments pertaining to the Nordic Fund, its programs. and the issues and events related to the mission and work in partnership with the trans-national One Earth Future Communications team to advance the storytelling reach of Fund’s impact . The Communications specialist will be fluent in digital technologies and social media trends and driven to use them for engagement with key audiences.

Primary Responsibilities:
Part 1: Leading implementation of the approved Nordic Fund Communication and Visibility Plan (50% Level of Effort).
- Supports the designing and implementing of effective, innovative, and integrated communications strategies for delivery across digital and in-person platforms to target audiences such as:
- Stakeholders such as investors and donors in EU member states
- Global Investment Community
- Somali private sector
- Somali policymakers
- Utilize a diverse array of communication tools and strategies to:
- manage all Nordic Fund content creation, social media posts, and storytelling initiatives, including conducting client interviews.
- implement, project manage, and promote NORDIC Fund Impact Video Series
- design, implement and maintain program Image Library
- produce and share high quality promotional materials with internal and external stakeholders
- support in the creation of Nordic Fund Annual Progress Report
- increase awareness of Nordic Fund goals through programming, delivery and evaluation of social media outreach, including Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and other emerging vehicles on a daily basis to maintain a high-profile, strategic presence consistent with the Nordic Fund and EU vision and brands.
- Work as a close strategic partner and collaborator with the Shuraako and Nordic Fund Team members to create and produce impactful communication strategies utilizing digital, print, and in person activities including event planning and execution in alignment with fund objectives.
Part 2: Supporting OEF Program’s Communication Operational Plans In Somalia and Somaliland (50% Level of Effort)
- Serve as OEF’s Somalia Communications Liaison for all programs in-country.
- Work as a close strategic partner and collaborator with the Shuraako and Secure Fisheries Team members to create and produce impactful communication strategies utilizing digital, print, and in person activities including event planning and execution in alignment with OEF’s vision and mission.
- Work in close collaboration with the OEF Global Team to curate and orchestrate timely delivery of strategic and meaningful content highlighting issues, projects, research and events.
- Supports the designing and implementing of effective, innovative, and integrated communications strategies for delivery across digital and in-person platforms to target audiences.
Required Education, Knowledge, Skills and Competences:
- Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, marketing, strategic design or a closely related field required. Equivalent combination of education and experience also considered.
- 3-5 years in the field of communications, marketing or design, preferably within the international development sector.
- Evidence of experience developing and implementing successful strategic communication plans and strategies.
- Experience with communication production, such as information design, graphic design and layout, and video and audio production techniques and strategies using the Adobe Suite.
- Experience project managing the work, outputs and outcomes of external vendors/contractors for integrated communications strategies, on time and within budget.
- Advanced writing, storytelling and editing skills using the English language are essential.A passion for and experience orchestrating visual and information design along with editorial messaging to create powerful brand experiences with targeted audiences, along with exceptional quality standards and attention to detail.
- Outstanding organization and people skills, project management and collaboration skills, and meticulous attention to detail and nuance required;
- Detail-oriented and analytical nature, with the ability to measure and report impacts, balanced with the creativity to brainstorm story angles and design high visibility campaigns.
- A high level of skill and comfort with technology, including experience with multiple computer and electronic communication software and platforms, such as Google Suite, MS Office, and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere, etc), Monday.com, Salesforce and Predictive Response (or other mass emailing softwares).
- Strong planning, organization and implementation skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and tasks.
- A self-starter with a proactive approach to assignments, one with the ability to work both independently and collaborate well across departments and timezones, solve problems with limited supervision, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
- Experience or interest in the fields of international development, political science, or related areas.
= English fluency required and Somali language fluency a plus.
