Position Summary
The Material Engineer will oversee all aspects of the batching plant operations and production, including raw material preparation, mixing, and delivery of the Ready-Mix Concrete. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the batching plant, ensuring that production targets are met, utilisation of batching plant, and that all safety, quality, and environmental standards are adhered to and maintained. He has to be able to consider the implications for waste and other environmental pollution issues of any product or process. Additionally, the candidate should be competent with all material engineering, including design mixes, to ensure the selection, testing, and utilisation of materials for concrete production.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
Technical Responsibilities
- Supervise the work of batch plant operator, technicians, mechanics, and other staff.
- Select the best materials for specific purposes, i.e., sand, gravel, cement, water, and other concrete chemicals, including sika mixes.
- Capable of using material engineering equipment to select, test how resistance and exposures to different forces and utilise raw materials for concrete production. Compressive Strength test machine, slump test equipment, cube test equipment and new technology
- Participate in reviewing the RMC technical team in all structural concrete, pavement, grout, and geotechnical aspect of the designs, ensuring that they meet technical and safety standards, and recommend modifications as necessary.
- Review Quality Assurance and testing plan for the construction and defects liability phases to effectively monitor and report on the quality of works following technical specifications.
- Analyze data using computer modelling software (Smart Scada, IDS Technology)
- Assess materials for specific qualities (such as electrical conductivity, durability, renewability, and workability)
- Review information on sand and materials that the Contractor/client intends to incorporate in the Works and provide recommendations on their approval/ rejection.
- Develop prototypes, including design mix requirements.
- Work to solve problems arising during the concreting process or with the finished product.
- Supervise quality control throughout the concrete production process.
- Monitor plant conditions and material reactions during production and servicing.
- Help to ensure that products comply with national and international legal and quality standards.
- Advise on inspection, maintenance and repair procedures of plant and equipment.
- Consider the cost implications of materials used and alternatives, in terms of time and money.
- Take account of energy usage in manufacturing and in-service energy saving, e.g. In transport and production applications
- Must have experience in the usage of Sika material in concreting.
Management and Business Development
- Manage the daily operations of the batching plant, including scheduling, production, and quality control.
- Coordinate with other departments, such as Procurement, logistics and maintenance, to ensure that production targets are met, and that plant downtime is minimised.
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all aspects of the batching plant operations.
- Ensure that all safety, quality, and environmental standards are adhered to and that the plant operates in compliance with all applicable regulations and standards.
- Manage the plant's inventory of raw materials, finished products, and ensure that all records are accurate and up to date on a day-to-day basis.
- Train, and supervise plant personnel.
- Develop and implement strategies to optimize plant performance, reduce costs, and improve efficiency.
- Prepare reports on plant operations, including production volumes, quality metrics, and environmental compliance.
- Manage relationships with suppliers, customers, and other stakeholders, and ensure that all communication is timely, professional, and effective.
- Participate in budgeting and financial planning activities and ensure that plant operations are aligned with the company's overall strategic objectives.
- Must ensure essential spare parts are available in stock or always ordered in advance.
Qualification Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, preferably focusing on Materials Science or a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in batching plant operations, including experience in a management role.
- Strong knowledge of concrete production, including raw material preparation, mixing, and delivery.
- Knowledge of materials engineering principles and their application in concrete production.
- Strong understanding of safety, quality, and environmental regulations and standards.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organisational skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software applications.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, as needed.
