We are seeking a highly skilled and talented Middle Eastern Pastry Chef to join our client's team. As a Middle Eastern Pastry Chef, the hired chef will create and prepare a wide range of traditional Middle Eastern pastries and desserts. In this position, the applicant will also play a crucial role in maintaining the authenticity and quality of our client's culinary offerings.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and create original recipes for various Middle Eastern pastries and desserts, ensuring each dish's authenticity and cultural significance.
  • Prepare ingredients, measure, mix, bake, and decorate various Middle Eastern pastries and baked goods, including but not limited to khubus (Arabian bread), baklava, kunafa, basbousa, maamoul, and halva, among others.
  • Maintain high standards of quality by consistently monitoring the prepared pastries' taste, texture, and appearance. Ensure that all pastries meet our client's established standards before they are served or sold, which includes decorating pastries and desserts to ensure a beautiful and tasteful presentation.
  • Meeting with customers to discuss details and planning custom-made desserts and pastries for special occasions, such as weddings, graduation ceremonies and other events.
  • Collaborate with the management team to plan and develop pastry menus catering to our customer's preferences while incorporating new and innovative Middle Eastern concepts.
  • Monitor and manage inventory levels of pastry ingredients, ensuring that all necessary supplies are available for daily operations. Responsible for placing orders and maintaining accurate records of inventory usage.
  • Adhere to food safety and sanitation standards, keeping the pastry kitchen clean, organized, and ready for daily operations. Properly handle, store, and dispose of ingredients as required.
  • Collaborate with other members of the culinary team to ensure smooth kitchen operations, assist with other food preparations when needed, and contribute to a positive work environment.

Requirements:

  • A culinary arts bachelor's, or certificate in culinary arts, pastry-making, baking, or relevant field.
  • Proven 5 years of work experience as a Middle Eastern Pastry Chef, with in-depth knowledge of traditional Middle Eastern pastries and desserts.
  • Ability to develop new and innovative pastry recipes while maintaining the authenticity of traditional Middle Eastern flavours and techniques.
  • Strong attention to detail, ensuring that every pastry is prepared and presented to the highest standards, and artistic skill in decorating cakes and other desserts.
  • In-depth understanding of Middle Eastern culinary traditions, ingredients, and cultural significance of different pastries and desserts.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills in English which is a must; Arabic is an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills in Arabic and English are a must; Somali is an asset.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, according to business needs.
  • Familiarity with food safety regulations and practices, with a commitment to maintaining a hygienic and clean work environment.

  • A great team player, and a leader with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
