Qalam Educational and Technical Center (QETC) is an internationally recognized and privately owned educational center for English language and various technical training opportunities who's envisioned to provide a high-quality learning environment and experience for all students, enabling them to attain academic excellence, balanced with the utmost moral, personal, and social competencies based in Hargeisa, Somaliland.
Becoming a teacher at QETC requires to be a passionate and dedicated teacher to join our Qalam Educational and Technican Center. A teacher at QET will play a vital role in fostering a positive and engaging learning environment for the students. The teacher will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction, developing educational plans, and assessing student progress in a holistic way for the different areas of their lives. A teacher who is enthusiastic about teaching, possesses excellent communication skills, and is committed to promoting academic and personal growth in students with determination to learn new ways of teaching and learning may be part of QETC Community.
Reports to: Executive Director of the QETC
1. Follow course objectives and learning targets throughout the semester by checking the term calendar beforehand and abiding by the aims, calendar and coordinators' comments;
2. Deliver course content properly, and substitute absent teachers as necessary;
3. Prepare for his/her classes accurately according to the term calendar and in due time for their class;
4. Design relevant classroom activities in any form of lesson plan; and go to class with all material needed for the session (CDs, CD players, analysis sheets, etc.);
5. Meet and assist students during scheduled office hours; and maintain a relaxing and motivating learning environment and a healthy working environment among colleagues;
6. Reinforce the usage of Second language (L2) during instruction time;
7. Communicate all findings, problems, and issues to both the academic coordinator and the Director of the QETC;
8. Adhere to QETC code of conduct and policies; and to the assigned teaching hours (Arrive to class and leave on time);
9. Provide regular feedback to the coordinators; Proctor exams when required;
10. Give students' attendance records and photocopy quizzes and tests for his/her classes
11. Grade all tests per answer key and coordinators' guidance and submit grades to the students' registrar according to the specified submission dates;
12. Keep students' year's work and exam papers intact; and correct exams following the QETC policy and maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student attendance, grades, and other relevant information.
13. Attend all in-house training and development sessions; and assigned meetings.
14. Attend and participate in staff meetings;
15. Check Email regularly, respond and/or give feedback to all emails;
16. Provide a lesson plan with analysis sheets for classes for announced observation;
17. Attend a one-on-one feedback session with their observer and attempt to work on action points.
18. Collaborate with other teachers and staff members to develop and implement interdisciplinary projects and activities.
19. Communicate regularly and effectively with students, parents/guardians, and colleagues, keeping them informed about student progress, academic expectations, school-related events.
20. Create a safe and respectful classroom environment that promotes positive behavior management strategies and adheres to school policies and procedures.
21. Identify and address individual learning needs and challenges of students, providing additional support or resources as necessary.
22. Stay updated with current educational trends, research, and best practices, continuously seeking professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and knowledge.
1. Bachelor's Degree in Arts and Education OR a Bachelor degree in any field with at least a year of English language teaching experience
2. C1 Level of English (advanced English in both spoken and written)
3. Holding a CELTA / TESOL/TEFL or any equivalent qualification is an asset.
4. Any certified teaching related courses
5. A punctual and responsible individual who is able to meet deadlines.
1. Experience of TOEFL and IELTS preparations classes.
2. Experience of teaching and collaborating effectively across different cultures.
3. Experience teaching English skills proficiency in relevant areas such as:
professional English, academic English, technical communication, English for
engineers and teacher training.
4. Knowledge or experience of designing and/or implementing an English immersion
program.
5. Experience of using a variety of educational technologies.
6. Knowledge or experience of evaluating the impact of language development
programs.
7. Enjoys working collaboratively with other teaching staff.
