Project Assistant: Health & Nutrition

The Role

The Project Assistant - Health & Nutrition will be responsible for implementation of the Health & Nutrition programs in the targeted districts; working in close collaboration with partners including the Ministry of Health- Juba land State.

The position holder working under the direct supervision of the Project coordinator- Health & Nutrition is expected to collaborate with other stakeholders towards an integrated Health & Nutrition intervention in the districts, carry out active case surveillance and response, assess and continuously monitor nutrition needs, ensure proper stock management, contribute project designs and proposal writings, reporting on the nutrition situation in the districts. S/he will also be responsible for meeting quality standards during project implementation, nutrition care delivery, encouraging beneficiary participation, liaising with other stakeholders such as Community Health Worker / Community Nutrition Workers (CHW/CNWs), Ministry of Health and Nutrition- Juba land State clusters, other World Vision Health & Nutrition partners and directly provide management, training and mentorship to the nutrition staff in the targeted districts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation of an effective nutrition response program in the targeted areas in close collaboration with the Ministry of Health- Juba land State and World Vision Health & Nutrition Partners.
  • Ensure project has in-use and updated appropriate project management documentation (DIPs, Cash Flows, Procurement Plans, MWRAPs etc.).
  • Ensure proper stock Management with vast knowledge of essential Primary health medical supplies.
  • Ensure that nutrition projects are implemented in alignment with current World Vision financial and administrative policy and procedures.
  • Working with local structures, including user committees and Local NGOs to identify technical gaps in knowledge/ skills and develop capacity building plans to bridge them.
  • Develop strategic partnerships with UN agencies and other INGOs, coordination mechanisms for coordination purposes.
  • Human Resource management of staff under his or her care and in line with World Vision Policy.
  • Work closely with local structures to facilitate the implementation and sustainability of the health and nutrition interventions.

Essential

  • A Bachelors' Degree in Nursing/Public Health preferred, or any other health related field.
  • 3 years of relevant technical working experience in a related job/work.
  • Should have good knowledge of SPHERE standards and the newly revised National IMAM guideline.
  • Knowledge and experience of IMCI, BEmONC and Health Programming in the Context of COVID-19 and similar pandemics is an asset.
  • Experience in management of essential medicines of primary health care.
  • Experience in stock management and supply requisition.
  • First-hand experience in the fight against Tuberculosis (TB) is essential.
  • Experience in community based participatory development approaches strongly desired.
  • Should demonstrate good knowledge in the use of MS Word, MS Excel, and Power-point.

  • Must demonstrate well-developed interpersonal skills as well as negotiation skills.
  • Should have strong organizational skills, versatility, and ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • Good communication skills in English as well as the local language spoken in the locality of work.
  • Good team work and leadership skills are essential in order to motivate different groups of people to fulfill their responsibilities within a given time frame.

Working Environment

The position will be based in Dollow, Jubaland State of Somalia with regular travel to other field locations for donor and stakeholders' engagements.
