Summary: The Deputy Manager of Maintenance will be based in Mogadishu Somalia, periodically making visits to all the business locations in the country. The successful candidate shall be reporting to the Workshop Manager and will be responsible for the day-to-day supervision of the workshop operations ensuring requirements for fuel quality, safety, environmental protection, and service levels, are met.
Responsibilities:
Operations:
- Ensure maintenance tasks and defects are executed in line with relevant Company Policies.
- Spearhead the team of professionals including electricians, mechanics, and Bodyshop technicians.
- Ensure maintenance tasks are carried out in such a manner as to ensure that all threats to personnel and the environment are minimized to as low as reasonably practicable.
- Focal point for the clients and vendors.
- Ensure proper Workshop Administration, record keeping, and vehicle history records are well maintained via the Fleet Management System for all the sub-offices and area offices.
- Become proficient in the use of the computerized Maintenance Management System,and take responsibility for all associated use and training of the system to other users.
- Ensure tools & instruments are controlled & in good condition.
- Prepare and submit reports i.e., daily, weekly, and monthly.
- Prepare, maintain, and monitor schedules of maintenance cover and call-out coverage ensuring that maximum efficiency is achieved in terms of paid hours, paying particular attention to the amount of overtime spent.
- Maintain and monitor a holiday register for all LN staff, maintaining appropriate availability of personnel for the operation.
- Maintain a maintenance plan, ensuring all planned and corrective maintenance is scheduled and carried out.
- Work closely with other supervisors and managers, ensuring that an effective handover takes place during shift changeovers, briefing colleagues on any key issues and ensuring that this is logged as appropriate.
- Support the Fleet Manager and Workshop Manager in daily operations.
- Visit outstations and provide technical support as necessary.
Health and Safety:
- Ensure the safety of staff, visitors/ contractors, and 3rd parties who are working on site.
- In conjunction with other supervisors, ensure that a daily inspection of the workplace is carried out and any issues are reported immediately.
- Immediate reporting and recording of any incidents, near misses, and spills, investigating issues, taking any appropriate actions, and reporting on outcomes.
- Carry out Safety Observations and Conversations (SOC's), record discussions, and ensure any issues are acted upon promptly. Ensure all accidents and incidents are reported in accordance with company and statutory requirements. Carry out investigations, as required, and report on corrective actions taken within target dates.
- Coordinate and participate in HSE meetings including compiling minutes.
Staff Management:
- Monitoring the well-being of Operators, through observation, conducting regular 1-2-1's and return to work interviews after any periods of absence, and making appropriate interventions where any risks are identified.
- In conjunction with the Manager, confirm through monitoring staff performance that attitudes and behaviors meet the levels of safety and performance required by SKA and make appropriate interventions as required.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Must hold a valid HGV license
- Ability to coach, lead, and direct others Strong Influencing Skills
- Ability to make own decisions and solve practical problems
- Clear communicator
- HSSE Mindedness and ability to manage risk.
- Good understanding of employment conditions
- Operational experience in heavy vehicle and plant equipment
- IT skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
- Knowledge of pneumatics and hydraulics with interlock systems.
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of experience
- Significant leadership experience is mandatory
- Experience working in high-risk, hostile environments, especially in Africa.
